Over one million young people enter the Kenyan job market each year, but 95% of them will never find formal employment. These young people are not just working in the informal sector; three million of them run micro-businesses of their own, often creating jobs for others.

Mesh is the first online community for entrepreneurs in the informal economy. Mesh allows Kenya’s 3m young micro-entrepreneurs to connect and grow their networks, learn new skills and build upon the economic value they’re already creating.

Working with the Mesh team and company founders, we helped them create a digital first brand identity that celebrates the vibrant energy of Kenya’s young entrepreneurs.

The identity needed to strike a balance between the functionality of the product and the colourful, vibrant energy of Kenya’s young entrepreneurs.

We created a bespoke set of templates in Canva to enable the Mesh team to quickly create social campaigns.

The design system features a range of patterns and colour combinations to celebrate the energy and diversity of Kenya’s young entrepreneurs. Our toolkits and ongoing support enabled the Mesh team to maintain this approach and implement the new identity.

“Cirkel worked closely with us to create a brand identity that encapsulated the spirit and energy of the community we are building at MESH. Mark was a delight to work with, taking us through each stage of the design process thoroughly. We’re thrilled with the guidelines and templates he created for us. We use them intensively and they have made the implementation process of his high design standards a breeze.”
